How to Choose the Right Nude Lipstick for Your Skin Tone

When it comes to makeup must-haves, a nude lipstick is as essential as a classic black dress—timeless, versatile, and suitable for every occasion. But just like dresses, there isn’t a single shade that works for everyone. The perfect nude should blend naturally with your lip tone, highlight your features, and balance your overall look. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you find the ideal nude lipstick for your skin tone.

What does “Nude” really mean?

Many people think nude means pale or beige, but that’s not the case. A nude lipstick should look natural on you—not too light and not too dark. Depending on your complexion, it might be peach, rose, brown, caramel, or even mauve. The key is to pick a shade that works with your undertone and adds a subtle warmth.

Step 1: Identify your undertone

Before selecting a lipstick, figure out your undertone by checking the veins on your wrist.

* Cool undertone: Veins look bluish, silver jewellery suits you best → pick pink, mauve, or rose-based nudes.

* Warm undertone:Veins appear green, gold jewellery looks flattering → choose peach, caramel, or warm brown shades.

* Neutral undertone: Both silver and gold suit you, veins show a mix of blue-green → most nude shades will complement you, from beige to rosy browns.

Step 2: Match nude shades to your complexion

Fair skin:Avoid very pale browns or beige as they can wash you out. Go for pinky nudes or soft peach shades that look fresh and natural.

Medium/Wheatish skin: Best options are warm peaches, caramel beiges, and rose-brown tones. These add depth while still looking natural.

Olive skin: Earthy shades like mocha, terracotta, caramel browns, and rosy-browns flatter olive undertones and prevent dullness.

Deep/Dark skin:Skip overly pale shades that appear chalky. Rich chocolates, coffee tones, caramel, berry-nudes, or deep mauves look gorgeous. Adding a little gloss gives dimension and shine.

Step 3: Consider your natural lip pigment

Even people with the same skin tone can have different lip colours—some are pinkish, others more brown or purple. Always swatch directly on lips, not just your hand, to see the true effect.

 Step 4: Pick your finish

* Matte: Long-lasting, modern, but can feel drying.

* Glossy/Creamy: Adds volume, hydration, and is great for everyday use.

Choose the texture depending on the occasion and your comfort.

 Final tip: Balance your makeup

If you’re wearing bold eye makeup, stick to subtle nudes. On lighter eye days, a slightly richer nude can enhance your face beautifully.

With these simple steps, you’ll never end up with a nude that looks dull or mismatched. Instead, you’ll have a shade that makes your pout look natural, fresh, and effortlessly stylish.

Dowry: An Ancient Tradition, A Modern Tragedy

What is Dowry? Dowry refers to the property, money, or valuable items given by the bride’s family to the groom’s family at the time of marriage. Though it is often presented as a “gift,” in most cases it is a demand rather than a voluntary offering. Legally, dowry is a crime in India. Under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961  , giving, taking, or demanding dowry is punishable by law. The punishment includes a minimum of five years of imprisonment and a fine of at least ₹15,000 or the value of the dowry. In addition, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 , Section 80 defines “ dowry death ” and prescribes punishment ranging from seven years to life imprisonment. How and When Did It Start? The roots of dowry in South Asia are complicated. Historically, texts mention stridhan  (woman’s property) which was meant for the bride’s security, and in some communities, there was even a system of bride price where the groom’s family paid the bride’s family. However, during the ...
